What is Hemp?

Quite simply, hemp is a plant. A plant that can grow to heights of 20 feet or more in one summer and yields two primary natural resources: the bast outer fiber and the inner pulpy core known as hurds. The hemp plant also yields an herb which will bear seeds if grown to maturity, seeds which are known to process into one of the healthiest seed oils on earth, as well as the healthiest seed cake which remains once the oil is pressed from the seeds.

These three resources are ironically the superior material in their respective category. Hemp happens to be the longest, strongest plant fiber in the plant kingdom. Hemp hurd is nearly 80% cellulose, the most of any other plant, and the seed oil provides a perfect balance of nutrients for the human body with the desired ratio of 3 to 1 on omega-based oils.

You will read more about the hemp plant throughout the site, with a fairly in-depth history page presenting a chronological record of the use of hemp throughout world history dating back to 8,000 BC.

The hemp plant has been cultivated by mankind for at least 10,000 years for its fiber and pulp.  Hemp has played a vital role in the history of the world and is predicted to become a staple crop once again in the coming years. It is in everyone's best interest to have a general knowledge about hemp and you will find that here on this site. And now that you have a basic understanding of the hemp plant if you didn't already, we recommend moving on to the History of Hemp page or our top 101 reasons why we argue in favor of re-legalizing hemp farming in America when engaged in discussion or debate. We hope you pick up on a few and speak about your new found knowledge to people in your circles. Spreading the word is the best way to bring positive change and we thank you for your participation ahead of time.
